When the Sony PlayStation 5 debuted in November, it came with a ton of new and significant upgrades. Among them were 4K resolution, storage space, faster load times, and the DualSense controller. The DualSense is a departure from the Sony’s usual controller brand, the DualShock.
You can still use a PS4 DualShock on your PS5, but only to play backwards compatible PS4 games. You can’t use it to play PS5 games directly on the console.
However, you can use a DualShock controller to remotely play PS5 games on your phone, tablet, PC, or Mac through the Remote Play app.
For those who find the DualShock 4 more accessible – or those who simply don’t want to buy new controllers -here’s how to use your PS4 controller with the PS5 console and games.
How to connect a PS4 controller to a PS5 with a cable
1. Plug the micro USB cable for the PS4 DualShock controller into any available PS5 USB ports.
2. Turn your Ps5 on, and then press the PS button to turn on the DualShock 4.
3. When prompted, select which user is using the controller from a list of profiles.
